December 2024: Raffle Bus Update

This weekend I picked up the bumpers that Roy straightened and picked up a few things at Space Age. Thank you Roy, you’re amazing! Mike and Wayne will go by Space Age Monday, when Jan’s there and hopefully pick up the paint for the bus if it’s ready. I started cleaning the last few items that need it for paint. Today was the panel between the gas tank compartment and the engine bay. Tomorrow will be the engine hatch, the removable piece at the rear of the compartment and the “mustache” bar.
I’m going to try my hand at using the all metal filler on some pinholes. A first for me so wish me luck.
My plan for the week is to split my time between doing odds and ends paint prep stuff and finishing the parts order list. Bill Ross has provided some much needed help with that while I was down last month. Thanks Bill. He also had a big hand in welding in the patch panels for rust repair and providing much needed QC on some of our welding attempts. I couldn’t be there for most of that but looking at it now, I’m very, very grateful for your expertise.

Got a few things done today. Finished cleaning the panel between the engine bay and gas tank cavity. It’s ready for primer. The bumper mounts are clean, put some rust converter on them and they can be primed. Cleaned the little “steps” at the front doors and tried to revive the rubber step covers, but they are too far gone. So I’ll order new ones. Seam sealed the battery tray, cleaned it and primed it top and underneath. It’s ready for paint. Cleaned and spot primed the rest of the engine bay. It’s ready for some epoxy primer and paint. Spot primed a few places at the center floor area just to see what it will take. It’ll take some more work.

Decided to do some electrical stuff, too. Had previously redone the hack ignition/turn signal wiring and got it back to factory. The emergency flasher switch is a real weak point and is prone to failure so I pulled it out of the dash and did some bench testing on it. Proved to be a good one. That’s really good news. I’ll test the flasher unit, too.
So not a heck of a lot got done but a few hours every day will help keep things moving until we can get back on it in a big way.
