Raffle Bus 34 Work Party - Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024

Published on 30 October 2024 at 09:04

Many thanks to everyone who came Saturday and helped on the raffle bus. It was another loud, dusty day of sanding, patching, scraping, wire wheel/brush and cutting away rusty areas and getting them ready to weld in real, steel patches.

Bill K wire wheeled the areas around the openings where seals will go, also sanded all the exterior trim areas.

David C sanded inside above the and around the windows as well as at the outside back corners and vents.
Reuben used the palm sander everywhere and made us all thankful for good ear protection. It’s a hot, dusty job.

Michelle and Sue R spent hours and hours cleaning and shining up bags and bags of parts. The gauge cluster looks almost new! Doing this now is so important. Makes the job of putting things back together actually doable.

Wayne spent all day taking terrible looking areas of the body and making them look like new. The rear corners were especially beat up and they now look great. The big dent in the roof is gone and the whole front end is looking good. Quite a skill.

Jim J. Worked at prepping the two big areas in the back that need new metal welded in. He cut the patch panels and worked at getting the seams back in shape to allow for the welding to be done. Jim and Wayne may be back over at Russell’s on Friday to get a jump on this upcoming Saturdays work party. Thanks guys!

Bill R. did a very thorough job of prepping the floor in front. He cut out some fiberglass patches and then cut the floor to get it ready for metal panels to be welded in. The drivers “foot step” was a real mess. He did a great job of removing the rusted areas and getting things ready for welding new steel in. He also removed the front doors handles so we can clean and lubricate them properly. Also it makes painting the doors so much nicer.

Dave Kelly was really busy. He straighten all the drip rails and cleaned out the rusted areas just below them where they meet the body. Very difficult to do. He also inspected the front end components, steering play, ball joints, and tie rods. Lots of pieces to be replaced under there. He even used Russell’s automotive power supply to give the radio a going over. Good thing he did, because it doesn’t work and will need to be replaced.

Russell was everywhere as usual. Sanding, grinding keeping everyone on task and just making sure all was progressing as smoothly as possible.

And again the start of the work party was Greta. She came up with a super lunch that everyone loved. There were NO leftovers! Thank you Greta! And I have to mention that Russell was at Home Depot at 5:30am Saturday morning picking up a kitchen sink faucet so he could get it installed by the time we arrived for the work party. Now that’s above and beyond the call of duty……

So Thank You everyone for coming.
